Montel Williams, an American television personality known for his long-running daytime talk program, The Montel Williams Show, was issued a tax lien by the IRS this week.
According to the filing, the tax collection agency said Williams, and his wife Tara, failed to pay more than $1 million in income taxes between 2008 and 2009.
Williams has faced a number of troubles in recent months, as he was arrested in a Milwaukee airport earlier this year on charges of possessing drug paraphernalia in his luggage. Williams was ultimately issued a $484 citation for the incident.
Tax liens are usually imposed as a means of IRS enforcement on the accused properties, so it can recoup missed payments. However, this usually follows a number of warnings issued by the agency that tax payments are delinquent.
The lien against Williams adds him to the growing list of celebrities who have encountered problems paying their taxes. In recent months, Val Kilmer and Doug E. Fresh have both been issued liens for thousands in unpaid income taxes.
