The Internal Revenue Service will open up more than 200 offices across the country to individuals and small businesses seeking help with tax issues.

The IRS will open at least one office in every state on May 15 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. local time. IRS employees will provide counseling to taxpayers who may have questions regarding notices and penalties, audits, and tax return preparation. The agency will also provide advice to consumers who owe a balance but may not have the money to pay. Assistance in understanding and completing paperwork regarding installment payments and offers in compromise will also be provided.

"Our goal is to resolve issues on the spot so small businesses and individuals can put any issues they have with the IRS behind them," said Doug Shulman, IRS Commissioner.

Tax law can be confusing for many Americans, especially for those who may have numerous sources of income or investments. For those who owe the IRS money or have received confusing tax notices, understanding how taxes are calculated may help them during their tax preparation process in the future.ADNFCR-3424-ID-19763473-ADNFCR
